DEEP DISH PIZZA


 
2 1/2 tsp. dry yeast
1 c. very warm water
1 tsp. sugar or honey
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. safflower oil
2 1/2 c. flour (1 c. whole wheat, 1 1/2 enriched is good)
 
Dissolve yeast in water, add remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover with cloth and let rest for 5 minutes. Press dough evenly on bottom and up sides ofa lightly greased 9x13 baking dish. Set aside.
 
PIZZA FILLING:
1 lb. hamburger browned and drained
1 can ( 16 oz.) whole tomatoes drained
1 tbsp. minced onion
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 sm. green pepper sliced
1 c. fresh mushrooms sliced
1/4 c. black olives sliced
1 c. shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz.)
 
Mix tomatoes, onion, oregano, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Spread hamburger evenly across the pizza dough, spoon sauce onto hamburger, add mushrooms, olives, peppers. Top with cheese. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 425 degrees.
